How are new pathways/sidewalk added?

The most common way we get new pathways and sidewalks is new developments. New developments (neighborhoods, shopping centers, roads, parks, etc.) are required to build perimeter pathways and interior sidewalks. With all the growth in Zionsville, you’ll see lots of new pathways added to our town.

One of the biggest obstacles for pathways is right-of-way on private property; we can’t use private property unless we purchase it or the property is donated. This can become incredibly expensive and create a roadblock to adding new pathways.
